Experts in PE & Physical Activity
Professional Development
Positive PE works with Primary, Secondary, Special Schools and School Sports Partnerships. We provide educators at all stages in their career with professional training in PE. We specialise in gymnastics, dance and accessible PE.
All of our professional development is tailored to each individual educator’s development needs.
In lesson professional development
1-1 in lesson professional development involves a member of the Positive PE team working with the educator on a weekly basis during a PE lesson. Prior to the first lesson we mutually agree a set of professional development aims for the time we have together. During the term or half term that we have together we work through a mentoring programme of observing, assisting, team teaching, leading and reflection. At the end of our contact time together we review the programme and can produce a document to evidence the impact of the intervention and budget allocation.
Although Positive PE specialises in gymnastics, physical literacy and accessible PE we aim to support a wider understanding of physical development, health and well being. From this educators themselves will begin to identify how PE learning and activities can be linked across age groups, and across the whole curriculum, not just PE. As we work with more educators within a team and with the support of leadership we can help build a culture where quality PE is enjoyed and valued for it’s tangible positive effects on behaviour, well-being and academic achievement.
Whole staff training (training days/twilight sessions) for professional development
We provide group training workshops in schools, colleges, School Sports Partnerships and ITT providers. We can provide a ‘Knowledge and Confidence’ questionnaire to your team to identify the key area/s for support or you can state the focus. All professional development includes digital resources and ongoing support via email or phone.
We have been providing the programme of professional development in gymnastics across the King Edwards School Sport Partnership since 2015.
“Catherine has been absolutely brilliant! She has taught gymnastics with my Reception class for half an hour a week and I have learnt SO much from her, not just in gymnastics, but in behaviour management and her general demeanour with the children; she is firm but fair and manages to get the children moving round in a calm, orderly fashion, but they absolutely love he lessons. She moves the children on bit by bit so that they have learnt something new after every lesson. She managed to get every single one of my 4-5 year olds doing a forward roll at the end of one lesson. Her expectations of the children are high and I have been amazed at what they can do. I followed her style in my own lessons and it worked! I would thoroughly recommend Catherine as an excellent gymnastics teacher and as a model example of how PE is taught well.”
