Extra Curricular
Positive PE provides before, afterschool and lunch time clubs for all types of education facilities.
Before school clubs have proven incredibly popular with primary pupils. Mrs Jay, Head Teacher at Welsh House Farm Community School was overjoyed that our 8am gymnastics club provided three pupils who historically were persistently late to school the motivation to improve their punctuality. A huge benefit in addition to the physical gains achieved!
We have provided all of the extra curricular gymnastics provision at The Blue Coat School Ltd in Edgbaston, Birmingham 2016 - 2020. During this time the scheme expanded from approximately 40 children per week to 130+ due to it’s popularity and several gymnastics performances were held to celebrate the children’s progress.
We also provide holiday schemes and evening clubs on school site to increase opportunities for you pupils. Sign posting to school children to established sports clubs/sessions is an important part of building a healthy, active community however we recognised that there are often barriers beyond simply knowing the location of a club that restricts children’s access to sport. Positive PE aims to increase affordable, accessible community gymnastics sessions in areas where provision is lacking.
We are achieving this by building relationships with schools and running regular evening and holiday sessions on the school sites. There are several advantages to using schools sites. Often schools can help us to keep the cost of the sessions as low as possible, families can travel to schools easily, families (especially in BAME and English Additional Language communities) feel more comfortable and less intimidated by school based clubs.
Positive PE’s most recent school based community holiday scheme was in Sparkbrook; a low income, BAME community that currently lacks such gymnastics provision. Positive PE provided affordable, inclusive gymnastics sessions in half term at Clifton Primary School. These were over subscribed and the children made great progress in the week. We are keen to continue to build the availability of gymnastics in Sparkbrook together with Clifton Primary School and also to expand this model into other schools with similar profiles.
“Thank you for our weekly gymnastics sessions for the children of Our Lady of Fatima School. The children loved the variety of warm ups and worked well in groups rotating around each activity station which allowed them to develop their personal skills. They all had opportunities to challenge themselves physically and progress at an individual pace. We look forward to working with you again very soon.”
Nuala Levack, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Primary School, Birmingham.
“We have Positive PE come and deliver our morning gymnastics and it has been an outstanding success. The children really enjoy the club, it is delivered in a really top quality way by the coaches and the children have learnt so much from the club. The knowledge and expertise from the coaches has really brought our children’s gymnastics skills to a high level. I would defiantly recommend Positive PE to every school.”
Matt Jones, PE Leader Welsh House Farm Community School, Birmingham.
